The Top 5 Cocktails for The Summer

submitted on 23 October 2020
The summer months are approaching and it is time to start planning for late-night drinks while the sun is low in the evening. Cocktails are the perfect summer drink no matter where you are in the world. You may plan on hosting a few parties, or simply want to spend an evening on a lounger after you have gotten the kids to bed, but we think you should plan ahead and pick a few cocktails to try this year.

Here is our list of five summer cocktail classics that anyone can try, and without breaking the bank!

The Classic Margarita
The margarita is a classic summer cocktail, and is a great way to cool down if you prep them and keep them frozen!

The only alcoholic ingredient you can’t do without is tequila, but this makes it an inexpensive cocktail. You will use a lot of lime juice, and this gives it a tart and refreshing kick that is perfect to relax with on a summer evening.

You can add different fruits to a margarita if lime isn’t your thing, and change the alcohol too. Switch the tequila for peach schnapps and the lime for peach juice and you can have a sweeter peach margarita.

A Simple Gin & Tonic
This classic is the perfect British end to a perfect British summer’s eve. Simple and elegant, and endlessly refreshing, a gin and tonic or two should definitely be on the menu this summer. If you only want a few, then you can save some money by buying a Gordon's Pink Gin miniature or two instead of a full bottle. One of the drawbacks of summer drinking is having half full bottles hanging around in September.

The Daiquiri
This is another chilled drink that is perfect for a warm summer night. The daiquiri is a great party drink too if you are planning on having friends over. It has only three basic ingredients, a liqueur, a spirit and a fruit juice or syrup. Strawberry daiquiris are a popular choice, but you can use any fruit you like with a daiquiri.

Have a ‘Spiked’ Lemonade
Lemonade is possibly the ultimate summer drink, but it can be a bit plain for an evening. You can add something extra to lemonade by mixing it with some flavoured liqueurs to give lemonade a little alcoholic kick.

You can even make your own lemonade and add different fruits and flavours to the process to make it a little different. Adding strawberries is a popular summer drink, and pairs great with gin. If you use a more tropical fruit like pineapple, try adding rum.

Enjoy a Spanish Sangria this Summer
Sangria is a great summer drink, that goes well with a meal or with the late evening sun. It is easy to make and there are lots of different recipes and variances so you will be able to find a Sangria style to suit any taste.

Though Sangria is thought of as a red wine-based drink, you can make it with white wine if you prefer, and this is often much more refreshing on a hot summer’s day.

This list should give you something special to enjoy on a summer evening. With these five cocktails you can simply change an ingredient or two to make a whole new drink, and maybe even use up an old bottle or two you have hiding at the back of the cupboard.
