4 Foodie Websites to Get Your Tastebuds Tingling

submitted on 12 October 2014
Birmingham is home to some wonderful food and drink shops, so you are never going to be far from that perfect bread, cheese, ham, chocolate or hard to find ingredient. However, if you want to look further afield and get some inspiration from food bloggers and suppliers, you can’t go far wrong with this list of some of the best foodie websites out there.

Baking Mad
If the Great British Bake Off is your idea of foodie heaven then you will want to check out Baking Mad. This website is packed to the rafters with delicious recipes for all types of cakes, pastries and biscuits. There are seasonal delights such as the Pumpkin Cookies and the Witches Hat Cupcakes, but also a huge range of ideas for birthdays, parties and the perfect afternoon tea.

The search bar is front and centre on the website’s homepage so you can dive right in. I guarantee that you will emerge several hours later, high on a virtual sugar rush and ready to get baking.

Tinned Tomatoes
From north of the border comes Tinned Tomatoes by Jacqueline Meldrum and it is a blog for vegetarians everywhere. There are over 500 vegetarian and vegan recipes on the site and you can either search by ingredients, or browse the categories to find something that fits the bill. There is even a baby and toddler section with some delicious recipes that your kids are going to love.

It is also a great resource for those who want to cook for vegetarian family and friends. There is a myth that vegetarian recipes are difficult to find and complicated to make. This site puts that idea to rest.

Good Grub People
If vegetarianism isn’t for you and you have found some delicious recipes that you now want to try out, you are probably going to be looking for a source of great quality grass fed meats. This online farm shop offers a range of different meats from pork and beef through to sausages and burgers. All are supplied by artisan producers who source local where they can.

The site also offers fish, ready meals, vegetarian options and scrumptious range of puddings and desserts. There really is something for everyone.

Quaffers’ Offers
We need great wine to go with all that food and so let’s turn to the wonderfully named Quaffers’ Offers. This site was set up by wine writer and Master of Wine, Mel Jones. However, this site definitely isn’t just for the expert, as it is filled with the opinions of wine lovers of all varieties. Beginners rub shoulders with connoisseurs and everyone brings something fresh and valuable to the discussion.

The site is recommended by BBC Good Food and is easily searchable so that you can choose by price, colour, grape, country or supplier. If you spot a great offer online or in your local off licence, it’s easy to quickly bring up the site and check out the reviews.
